ABOUT

Introduction

My name is Tamar and I am a doctoral candidate at Birmingham City University (BCU). This means I'll be doing research and writing the results up in my thesis in the next couple of years. My research project is about teens' experiences following sexual assault.

Before I started this research project I studied Social Work and(clinical) Psychology after which I obtained master degree in Criminology.

I have worked as a lecturer in social studies and as a family manager and youth probation officer for Child Protective Services in Amsterdam. I worked with many teens who have experienced sexual assault and have witnessed firsthand the difficulties
teens have when it comes to speaking out and finding the right (professional) help.

These experiences motivated me to set up the current research project.

My Mission

I am doing this research project to learn more about what it’s like for teenagers who have experienced sexual assault to seek help afterwards as well what it is like not to tell people or not to seek out help. I hope that this will help us to understand more about teens’ experiences so that we can learn how support services can be improved for teenagers who have experienced sexual assault.

Your Voice Matters

This website was made to accommodate the research project 'Teens' experiences with sexual assault support services'. The project is funded by Birmingham City University and conducted in cooperation with Umbrella, an Abuse Survivors Clinic, and part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Umbrella offers free and confidential sexual health services in the Birmingham and Solihull area, for people of all ages, gender and orientations.
